2019 Integrity Toys Fashion Doll Design Competition Finalist

This design came from my recent work with Shakespeare—specifically the play Macbeth. I wanted to create the impression of pages from a script or papers from a notebook fluttering in the breeze. I knew I wanted to design something that would look dramatic going up the stairs at the Met, so the back of the gown has a long train, is dramatic and full of texture

The belt is inspired by Elizabethan sword belts and dagger holders, and the earrings are inspired by chain mail.

The fabrication and silhouette of the design has several inspirations—first of all, the more obvious connection—the iconic gown worn on the Richard Quinn Spring 2020 RTW collection, famously worn by Kendall Jenner at the Emmy awards. What I liked in that gown was the contrast between the soft gown and edgy vinyl long sleeved top.
I decided on a red vinyl to give the feeling of blood-there are so many tragic deaths in Shakespeare’s plays-especially Macbeth—where ambition and drive cause Lady Macbeth to convince her husband to commit murder, and go insane in the process.
